Frequently Asked Questions

What exactly does a pelvic floor therapist do?

We help with bladder leaks, pelvic pain, pressure, and pain with sex by treating the muscles that support your core and pelvic organs — both inside and out.

Our approach includes:

  • Full-body + pelvic muscle assessment
  • Hands-on therapy (internal or external)
  • Exercises to restore strength and balance
  • Tools to improve muscle control + awareness
  • Real-life strategies to support healing daily

Our goal? To get to the root of the issue and help you feel better, move better, and live with confidence.

How do I know if I need pelvic therapy?

Leaks, pressure, pain with sex, constipation, or feeling “off” down there? Pregnant, postpartum, or healing from pelvic surgery?

If your pelvic area isn’t feeling right, pelvic therapy can help.

Do I need a referral from a doctor to see you?

No referral needed! In New Jersey, you can start pelvic floor therapy without one. If you haven't had a recent gynecological (for women) or urological/colorectal (for men) exam, it's wise to consult with your doctor first.

How long are the appointments?

Expect your initial evaluation to take 65-75 minutes, and follow-up sessions to be 50-60 minutes. For telehealth appointments, we shorten the session slightly to allow time for us to send you a comprehensive post-visit summary of your exercises and techniques.

How long does it take to see results from pelvic floor therapy?

The timeline varies based on the severity of your condition, how long you've had the issues, and your consistency with the treatment plan.  Most clients begin to notice improvements within 2–4 weeks, with more significant progress often observed by 6–10 weeks. A typical treatment plan lasts 10–12 weeks, depending on individual needs and goals. Consistency with sessions and home exercises is essential for achieving lasting results.

Your therapist will work with you to track progress and adjust your treatment as needed to help you reach your goals.

What can I expect during my first visit?

Your first visit includes a discussion of your medical history and symptoms, a physical assessment of posture and muscle function, and, with your consent, an internal pelvic floor exam. We'll develop a personalized treatment plan and provide education on exercises and lifestyle modifications. Your consent, comfort and privacy are our top priorities throughout the process.

Can I bring someone with me?

Absolutely! You’re welcome to bring a partner, friend, or family member to your sessions. It’s your legal right to have a chaperone, and many find it enhances the experience, whether for learning or added comfort. Little ones are welcome too!

Why won’t yoga from YouTube and Kegels be enough to fix my pelvic floor issues?

Yoga and Kegels can be beneficial, but they don't address the full complexity of pelvic floor health. Pelvic floor physical therapy offers a comprehensive approach, including personalized assessments and specialized techniques like manual therapy, postural adjustments, and tailored exercises to address the root causes of dysfunction. Additionally, Kegels may not be suitable for everyone; in some cases, they can exacerbate symptoms if performed incorrectly or if the pelvic floor muscles are already tight. A trained pelvic floor therapist can guide you in determining the most effective treatment plan for your specific needs.

What should I do if my period coincides with my pelvic floor therapy appointment?

Don’t cancel! Menstruation doesn't interfere with therapy. We can adjust your session to focus on external techniques or switch to a virtual appointment if needed. If you experience pain during menstruation, pelvic floor therapy can help address it. Let's work together to keep you on track.

What can I expect from a virtual consultation?

Our virtual sessions are interactive, involving movement assessments and exercise guidance. We observe your environment to tailor your treatment plan effectively. You'll receive tailored exercises and lifestyle modifications to support your pelvic health journey. Experience top-tier pelvic health care from the comfort of your home.
